Public Mental Health

The main focus of the section Public Mental Health is to map this field in its interdisciplinarity across the entire spectrum of mental health. The section further seeks to lead the discourse between public health, psychiatric epidemiology, mental health promotion, prevention, and health services research in order to realize more fully its innovative potential in research, teaching, and practice.

Goals of the section

  • Establish and represent public mental Health as an important discipline in the wider public health field
  • Provide information on current topics and events in the field of public mental health.
  • Lead the interdisciplinary discourse and facilitate networking with other learned societies
  • Promote exchange and capacity building in research, teaching and practice

Activities

  • Promote exchange between research, practice, policy, relevant stakeholders, and target populations
  • Organise events (symposia, workshops and seminars)with sections and working groups of other learned societies (e.g., German Society for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Neurology (DGPPN), German Society for Social Medicine and Prevention (DGSMP))
  • Represent public mental health as a discipline at national and international conferences and facilitate networking with international partners
